Infant Baptism is a Sacrament of Initiation that welcomes a child into our faith community of Catholic Christian believers. It is the celebration that begins the faith life of the child in and with Christ. Because the child is unable to express faith, the Church invites the parents and god parents into a preparation process prior to the celebration of Baptism.
If you are baptizing your first child or it has been more than two years since you participated in a baptism preparation class, you and/or your spouse are expected to participate in a preparation class before the Rite of Baptism. You may take the session here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help or any other Catholic church. The godparents are invited but not required to take this preparation class. Those who have been asked to serve as godparents in another parish may participate in this preparation in order to fulfill that parish’s requirements.
