In today’s world it seems harder and harder to be a vocal Christian. Perhaps this is just my own, personal perception. To be quite honest, I am fearful that voicing my belief will offend others and get me into some kind of trouble.
Today’s reading from Luke reiterates Jesus’ message to us that we need to put our lamp on a lampstand and be seen, not concealed. If I am an authentic, genuine Christian, my devotion to God will show through my love for others and my heart to serve. I won’t have to say anything at all! Not that I should keep quiet, either; I think we have to delicately balance when to be quiet and when to speak, and then ask God to guide our speech when appropriate. But this is a good reminder to me that as a Christian, it is our love that separates us from others. I do not have to engage in aggressive discussions or disagreements with others to get my point across. All I have to do is love.
