Edge Nite - Parent Notes

Tonight, we heard the story of Jacob and Esau, the sons of Abraham.  We learned that Jacob did not treat his brother with fairness, and as a result he created a split between then that took many years and God's help to heal.  In the same way, Man created a split between himself and God that took Jesus' death and resurrection to heal.  Talk to your teens about a situation you know of where someone's conduct caused a separation between two people, and how it was healed.  I brought in an Energy stick, which lights up when we join hands, because it reacts to the energy in our bodies.  I used it to show that when we offer our true selves, you make a real connection, but when we hide who we are, there is no link.  Offering a fake version of yourself in order to get or keep a friend, means there is no real connection when things get tough.  God always offers his real self to us.
